Does salvation lie in the flesh?

As a ghastly Apocalypse unfolds before his eyes, Father Gioele takes shelter in St. Peter's Basilica. A flayed, hooded figure named Prophet seems to be leading this cataclysm, and speaks to Gioele telepathically, slowly guiding him to temptation and insanity.

The possible outcome of Gioele’s obstinacy is soon revealed: if he resists change and holds onto his flawed beliefs, he will meet his end. Through acceptance, however, he will join the Metamorphosis and receive all the answers to his questions.

If salvation won't come from Gioele's faith, how much truth is in the Church he has served all his life? Should he surrender to change, or be loyal to his God?

Gioele is a short story about the implications of harmful beliefs, the consequences of resisting change, and the long-term cost of self-deception. Set in the same apocalypse as Margaret, Gioele is part of Chrysalis, a series of horror stories showing the end of the world through the eyes of different people around the globe.
